Although
born in Spokane Washington in 1974, Lee has been an Oregon resident
for 28 years. In 1996, while attending the University of Oregon in Eugene,
he studied drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics. It was under
the influences and direction of Ron Graff and Carla Bengston that the
commitment was made to pursue painting. "My goals as an artist
consist of personal convictions and beliefs about a certain 'rightness'
concerning painting."

"The
image cannot be dispossessed of a primordial freshness which ideas can
never claim,"
Cy Twombly.
Paintings
are of painting in the act of experience; my interests lie therein.
I make my decisions based on an esthetic judgement, but this need not
be finished, perfect, or complete; my work is exposed, imperfect, and
alive. I find beauty in this vein. If I find violence, it must be worked
out but appropriation must not be decorated. Painting is color of which
the art form will not be denied. Often the viewer is being forced to
accept things he or she may not understand; and so the confrontation
begins.
