I
want to make simple paintings, still, quiet, yet full of resolve. Like
neon signs of florescent tubing here to advertise nothing, these paintings
are monuments to their own existence. A reduction of dialogue affords
these paintings freedom from the responsibilities associated with representation,
which releases them from any presupposed connotations. My work is not
a metaphor for something beyond art.
These works are meant to deny performance by replacing imagery with
the substance of an aesthetic judgment. Their corrected sense of balance
is relative to color and dimension, while the aesthetics are held at
a glance.
As an artist I try to act between what I call a monumental aesthetics,
and a compartmentalization of painting.
